Station XII: Jesus Entrusts Mary and John to Each Other (John 19:25-27)
We are still (slowly!) journeying with Jesus down the Way of Sorrows, using the Scriptural Stations of the Cross as our guide... But an end is in sight! :)
We last left off in Station XI, where Jesus forgave a thief who had no hope of redemption. The agonizing hours on the cross wear on, and now Jesus only has a few breaths of life left in him. Yet, he uses these precious final moments not to focus on himself, but to form a new family that would be defined by love.
Why was Jesus still caring for others while enduring agony? How did Mary feel watching her son die? And as the church, are we a community marked by love and care for the most vulnerable? These are the questions we ponder as we visit Station XII and see Jesus entrust his mother, Mary, and friend John to each other.
